How do they deal with the search party in the air/raft? What about the locals? What about the wildlife? How can they trick the Vargr to land somewhere that they can disable their spaceship? They can land their ship and camouflage it. Maybe the primitive world is somewhere the party have to hide from the Vargr or some other party chasing them. The hostage is Bart Simpson (think Abdullah from the Tintin stories) but he's the heir to the throne. Maybe they owe money to Jabba the Hut (or some equivalent) and his representative turns up with a job they can't refuse. Perhaps the party have other obligations. Who are the mysterious thugs following them? Now they have to locate someone who will sell it. Like above, but suddenly none of the local chandlers will sell the party some part that needs replacing on the ship. The crime boss could bribe the local authorities to withhold your clearance and are those customs officials really who they claim to be? Perhaps this is a local crime boss on a planet they have to trans it through (maybe landing to purchase fuel). Perhaps some third party (maybe the Vargr) gets wind of the swap and realises that they could kidnap and ransom the prisoner the party are transporting. Perhaps once they find the Vargr are asking about them they suddenly need to up-gun their ship. Perhaps a band of Vargr Privateers are hunting the party as they travel across the sector.ĭealing with the underworld for something. Why do the Vargr care? Maybe they're in alliance with one of the houses, or maybe they somehow stand to gain if the houses remain at war. This may be necessary for the party to get their payment. Maybe some of the crew have managed to crawl into cold sleep capsules and can be rescued. Get some set of deck plans and have the party explore the derelict ship. Maybe you arrive to find that their ship has been shot up by parties unknown. What do you need to Salvage? Perhaps you're scheduled to rendezvous with your employer once you've retrieved the prisoner. There may also be some requirement to travel incognito. Travelling on the planet - the terms of the swap may preclude bringing the ship too close, so they may have to travel overland on a caravan of local, smelly, bad tempered pack animals. Why would a starship hang around a primitive planet? Perhaps this is the location of the hostage swap? Pirates, or possibly a raiding party from one of the houses or a 3rd party trying to interfere with the kumbaya between the two houses.
